“Book of Love” (1958) by The Monotones features the catchy question “Who wrote the book of love?” in its chorus. It reached #5 on the charts, and became a doo-wop standard. Fun fact: Sha Na Na sang it at Woodstock in 1969. Its title phrase has also echoed in pop culture (it’s mentioned in Don McLean’s “American Pie” and was used as theme music for the TV show *The Newlywed Game*).
