Please Please Please

Soul

James Brown’s debut single “Please, Please, Please” (1956) was co-written with Johnny Terry. Brown later said the idea came from a napkin Little Richard had scribbled on that said “please, please, please”. The slow-burning song became Brown’s signature wail; he was known for ending performances by throwing himself on the floor in a faint. The track went on to be inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame.
