“Sixteen Candles” (1958) was a hit doo-wop single for The Crests. Written by Allyson Khent and Luther Dixon, it hit #2 on the pop charts. The song’s teenage lyrics about celebrating a girl’s birthday made it an anthem for young love. It later appeared in the film *American Graffiti* and lent its title (via a Stray Cats cover) to the 1984 movie *Sixteen Candles*.
