Bobby Mitchell

Steady Baby

Blues

“Steady Baby” (1957) showcases Bobby Mitchell’s raw New Orleans R&B style. Recorded on Imperial Records, Mitchell’s powerful tenor-baritone voice bridged the gap between Fats Domino’s swing and Roy Brown’s jump blues. Although “Steady Baby” itself wasn’t a chart hit, Mitchell later co-wrote Jackie Wilson’s huge soul hit “(Your Love Has Lifted Me) Higher and Higher” (1967), indicating his influence behind the scenes.
