“Dedicated to the One I Love” was originally an R&B song by The "5" Royales in 1957. The Shirelles first recorded it in 1959, but their 1961 reissue turned it into a Top 5 pop hit. Its slow, dreamy arrangement and innocent lyrics made it a doo-wop favorite. The Mamas & the Papas later covered it in 1967 (with Michelle Phillips on lead), taking it to #2 on the charts.
