'I've Been Lonely Too Long' (1967) by The Rascals isn't as famous as 'Groovin',' but it showcases the band's soulful side. Written by Felix Cavaliere and Eddie Brigati, it spent several weeks on the charts in the summer of '67. The track's smooth organ and harmonies were heavily influenced by earlier R&B – in fact, it was essentially a reworking of Solomon Burke’s 'Everybody Needs Somebody to Love' with new lyrics. The song's theme ('come back and ease my loneliness') and catchy melody made it a radio favorite in the summer of 1967.
