In 1964, The Supremes catapulted to stardom with “Where Did Our Love Go,” their first No. 1 hit. Ironically, the trio initially thought this Holland-Dozier-Holland song was too simple, but Diana Ross’s sweetly pleading vocal and the track’s foot-stomping beat proved irresistible. Complete with hand claps and a baritone sax hook, it became pure pop magic and kicked off the Supremes’ spectacular run of hits.
