As the ’90s turned into 2000, Madonna proved she could still set the trends with “Music.” Released in late 2000, this effervescent dance-pop track (produced by French DJ Mirwais) fused retro funk with futuristic electronica and had Madonna declaring “Music makes the people come together.” The song shot to #1 worldwide, powered by its irresistible groove and a music video featuring Madonna as a cowboy-hatted party girl (with comedian Ali G as chauffeur). “Music” became an instant party staple and confirmed that after two decades, Madonna was still the ultimate dancefloor queen heading into the new millennium.
