Shut Up and Drive

Rihanna’s “Shut Up and Drive” (2007) is a feisty pop-rock track that uses car metaphors to describe attraction and confidence. Sampling a riff reminiscent of New Order’s “Blue Monday,” the song finds Rihanna confidently inviting someone to take the wheel (“Shut up and drive”) in both literal and playful senses. Though not as massive as some of her other hits, it cruised into the Top 20 and showed off Rihanna’s rock-chick edge in the Good Girl Gone Bad era. With revving engines and Rihanna’s attitude on full display, it’s a fan favorite for its sassy, high-octane vibe.
