Luther Vandross is an American R&B singer who sold over 35 million albums worldwide. His distinctive falsetto and velvety vocals made him the king of ballads in the 1980s and 1990s. Vandross wrote hits for Aretha Franklin, Diana Ross and David Bowie before his solo career. His album Never Too Much (1981) went platinum, and the song Dance with My Father earned him a Grammy Award in 2004. He influenced artists like Usher, John Legend and Alicia Keys with his smooth R&B style and vocal arrangements.
