M.A.R.R.S.

M.A.R.R.S. is a British electronic collective who created the cult hit Pump Up the Volume in 1987. The song became the first UK #1 hit that used sampling as the basis of composition, sampling over 300 different tracks. The group consisted of members from 4AD Records and Colourbox, who experimented with hip-hop beats and house music. Pump Up the Volume sold over 1 million copies in the UK and became an anthem of club culture. Their approach to sampling influenced the development of big beat and breakbeat genres in the 1990s.
