New York Dolls

New York Dolls is an American proto-punk group who created the album New York Dolls (1973). The album reached #116 on Billboard 200 but became a cult classic that influenced the punk rock movement. The group used glam rock images with makeup and cross-dressing, which was shocking for the 1970s. New York Dolls had 2 studio albums between 1973-1974, including Too Much Too Soon (1974). The group disbanded in 1977, but their influence is felt in the work of Sex Pistols, The Ramones and Kiss. David Johansen later became Buster Poindexter, and Sylvain Sylvain played with Hanoi Rocks. Malcolm McLaren was their manager in 1975.
