Otis Redding

Otis Redding is an American soul singer who created the hit (Sittin On) The Dock of the Bay (1968). The song was completed 3 days before his death in a plane crash and posthumously reached #1 on Billboard Hot 100. Redding recorded over 30 songs at Stax Records between 1962-1967. He performed at Monterey Pop Festival in 1967, where he impressed white audiences with his R&B style. Otis wrote Respect (1965), which later became Aretha Franklins hit. He died at age 26 along with 4 members of The Bar-Kays. His influence is felt in the work of Al Green, Wilson Pickett and Sam Cooke.
