Phil Collins is a British drummer and singer, former Genesis member, who created the hit In the Air Tonight (1981). The song reached #19 on Billboard Hot 100 and became cult due to distinctive drum break and mysterious lyrics. Collins has 8 Grammy Awards and sold over 150 million records as solo artist and with Genesis. He became Genesis drummer in 1970 and took over vocals after Peter Gabriels departure in 1975. Phil wrote soundtrack for Disney film Tarzan (1999), including Oscar-winning song Youll Be in My Heart. He suffered from nerve damage and hearing loss, forcing him to retire in 2011. His influence is felt in the work of Adele, Bruno Mars and John Legend.
