Pixies

Pixies is an American alternative rock group from Boston who created the influential album Doolittle (1989). The group used quiet-loud dynamics and surreal lyrics, which became a template for the grunge movement of the 1990s. Pixies had a distinctive sound with Kim Deal bass lines and Black Francis screaming vocals. They disbanded in 1993 at the peak of alternative rock popularity. Kurt Cobain stated that Smells Like Teen Spirit was an attempt to write a Pixies song. The group reunited in 2004 and continues touring without Kim Deal, who left in 2013. Their songs were featured in films Fight Club and 500 Days of Summer. Their influence is felt in the work of Nirvana, Radiohead and Weezer.
