Prince and the Revolution is an American funk-rock group by Prince who created the hit 1999 (1982). The song reached #12 on Billboard Hot 100 and became an anthem of new wave in the 1980s. The group used Roland TR-808 drum machine and synthesizers to create distinctive electronic funk sound. Prince and the Revolution had 4 Top 10 hits between 1982-1986, including Little Red Corvette and Raspberry Beret. The group performed in futuristic costumes and with elaborate stage props, including giant purple cloud. Matt Fink (Dr. Fink) and Brown Mark were key members of the group, who added keyboard and bass elements. Their influence is felt in the work of DAngelo, The Weeknd and Bruno Mars.
