Prince & The Revolution is an American funk-rock group by Prince who created the hit Purple Rain (1984). The song reached #2 on Billboard Hot 100 and became the theme song for the film of the same name, which won Oscar for Best Original Song Score. The group used innovative synthesizer sounds and live instrumentation during Purple Rain tour. Prince & The Revolution had 3 platinum albums between 1984-1986, including Purple Rain (1984) and Around the World in a Day (1985). The group performed in elaborate purple costumes and with purple-themed stage design. Wendy Melvoin and Lisa Coleman were key members of the group, who added female energy to Princes sound. Their influence is felt in the work of DAngelo, The Weeknd and Bruno Mars.
