“Stormy Weather,” written by Harold Arlen and Ted Koehler, was first sung by Ethel Waters at Harlem’s Cotton Club in 1933. Waters’ soulful rendition (lamenting “since my man and I ain’t together…”) became a signature blues-jazz ballad. Its popularity led to a 1943 film titled *Stormy Weather* starring Lena Horne, and Waters’ recording is now preserved in the Grammy Hall of Fame.
