Brenda Lee’s “Sweet Nothin’s” (1959) was her breakthrough pop hit (#4). Lee was just 13 when she recorded this bubblegum-soul song. The breathy, youthful delivery and doo-wop backing exemplify the era’s teen-pop style. It’s often remembered for Brenda’s playful onomatopoeic vocalizations and the line “Humpty Dumpty sat on my wall, Humpty Dumpty had a great fall” in the chorus.
