'Happy Together' (1967) by The Turtles was their first and only US #1 hit, and quickly became a classic of the 1960s. Written by songwriters Garry Bonner and Alan Gordon, its sunny melody ('imagine me and you, I do') and jaunty organ licks captured the hopeful spirit of the era. Paul McCartney reportedly said he wished he'd written that irresistible chorus.
