Bobby Vee’s “Take Good Care of My Baby” (1961) was written by Carole King and Gerry Goffin. Producer Snuff Garrett had Goffin and King add a spoken introductory verse, which they did. Vee’s recording became his first and only #1 single. It’s a classic breakup song, with Vee singing a heartfelt plea to an ex’s new boyfriend to treat her well. The track’s breezy feel and catchy chorus have kept it as a staple of early ’60s pop.
