Hip-Hop R&B
In 1996, Blackstreet scored one of R&B’s smoothest jams with “No Diggity.” Backed by a head-nodding groove (built on a Bill Withers sample) and featuring a slick verse from Dr. Dre, the song oozes laid-back confidence as the group praises a classy, independent woman. The phrase “no diggity, no doubt” became a pop culture catchphrase, and the track’s cool, puppet-filled music video was all over MTV. Topping the Billboard Hot 100 (even dethroning the “Macarena”), “No Diggity” remains a ’90s R&B staple that still makes heads bob and fingers snap.
