Hip-Hop
In 1991, Naughty by Nature had everyone enthusiastically shouting along to “O.P.P.” (and answering “Yeah, you know me!”). This cheeky hip-hop hit used a Jackson 5 sample to create an insanely catchy groove while the trio playfully rapped about the universal temptation of messing with “Other People’s Property.” Despite its sly, risqué theme, the song’s sing-along quality turned it into a crossover smash, reaching the top 10 and becoming a staple of ’90s party playlists. “O.P.P.” essentially taught the world some new slang and remains one of hip-hop’s most infectious crossover anthems.
