Blur’s “Song 2” might be only two minutes long, but it made a gigantic impact in 1997. Conceived partly as a playful jab at American grunge, the song blasts off with distorted guitars and Damon Albarn’s exuberant “Woo-hoo!” holler that repeats throughout. Ironically, it became Blur’s biggest hit in the US — sports arenas around the world still echo with that “woo-hoo” during goal celebrations. With its booming drums and high-octane energy, “Song 2” turned into a ’90s alt-rock anthem almost by accident. Its title is tongue-in-cheek (it was track 2 on the album), but fans know it simply as the ultimate “woo-hoo” song that never fails to amp people up.
