That's All Right

Rockabilly Rock

Elvis Presley’s 1954 recording of Arthur Crudup’s blues song “That’s All Right” is often cited as the beginning of rockabilly. Recorded in the small Memphis Sun Studio, Elvis’s faster, bluesy take on the song led producer Sam Phillips to reportedly say, “That’s [the sound] I’ve been looking for.” It was a regional hit that helped launch Elvis’s career, even though it didn’t chart nationally at the time.
