Roy Orbison’s “Uptown” (1960) showcased his operatic voice on an R&B-style number. It reached #5 on the charts and was arranged with a punchy sax riff. Orbison often said it was one of his favorite recordings because it combined a city-slick pop feel with deep emotion. (He later covered it on the film *Honeymoon in Vegas* soundtrack as a tribute to his early career.)
